When questioned about his strict privacy measures, Lopp remarked, “The biggest issue, which I think I talk about near the beginning of my very long post of what I did, is that you never know what might become an issue.”
Individuals have the ability to reach thousands, millions, or even billions of people with a single social media post since the internet links individuals from all over the world. Although there are clear advantages to this interconnectedness, Lopp pointed out that there are drawbacks as well, such as the possibility of unintentionally connecting with unstable people who may become agitated by a careless tweet.
“There may be one or two unstable individuals or those with mental health concerns among the throng of people who view your tweet. They’re prepared to do whatever it takes to attempt to hurt you or at the very least frighten you, and they don’t know when to stop,” said Lopp.
“Now, they might feel compelled to try to do something to hurt me or to make me afraid if I say something that offends someone or that might be against someone’s financial interests because they hold a certain crypto asset,” Lopp said.
According to Lopp, the person who tried to swatted him was trying in vain to just extort him. At that moment, Lopp understood he had an issue on his hands that would get worse as Bitcoin’s popularity and his own social media following grew.
“I think it’s best to be cautious and assume that things could get significantly worse,” stated Lopp.
“If you use social media frequently, especially, you never know who you may annoy. Later in the chat, Lopp said, “It’s just not possible to fully comprehend the thought processes of everybody else out there who’s on the internet who might read or hear something you might say and then what they might do as a result.”

However, a small percentage of people either have psychopathic tendencies or are simply willing to do things that most people would consider immoral, which is why proper security for one’s personal data is necessary.
That’s the thing that worries me, Lopp added. “Even though the average person’s chances of experiencing something similar are probably lower, you never know.” Therefore, it functions as a type of insurance against an unlikely but still conceivable occurrence.
